Screened Porch & Outdoor Living Space in Collierville, TN

Brief Overview

Laura and Wes were looking for a way to transform their backyard from a water-logged trouble spot into a beautiful and functional space for their family. Before the Collierville renovation, they only had a small patio and a garden bed, and constant drainage issues caused water to flow toward the garage. TruVine Renovations designed and built a stunning outdoor living area that solved the water problem and delivered a versatile space they could enjoy year-round.

The Homeowners

The Collierville Homeowners

For Laura and Wes, their home is their haven. They wanted to create a backyard space that could serve as a quiet retreat for Laura’s morning quiet time—complete with scripture verses written on the framing before the walls went up—and a lively gathering spot for their grandbabies and extended family.

The Challenge

The primary challenge was a significant water drainage problem that consistently flooded the backyard and even seeped into the garage. The small patio and garden bed provided no real gathering space, and the homeowners lacked a dedicated area where they could relax, have quiet time, or entertain guests year-round.

The 3-Phase Process

Creating a Flow Between Indoor & Outdoor Living
1.

Design

The homeowners provided their own initial design, which TruVine Renovations refined and elevated. The final plans included a vaulted-ceiling screened porch with skylights, an expanded grilling patio, a firepit area, and a comprehensive drainage solution with French drains.

2.

Build

The first step was addressing drainage: installing French drains tied into the porch gutters and running water to the street, replacing damaged driveway sections, and grading the yard for proper runoff. Construction then moved to the slab pour, framing, and installation of the wood-paneled stained ceiling, beadboard walls, PVC window trim, and matching siding. Laura and Wes were kept in the loop with daily updates.

3.

Enjoy

The completed space included an expanded grilling patio—big enough for a full set and grill—and a connected gravel walkway leading to a large firepit. As a thank-you, TruVine surprised Laura and Wes with a new Blackstone griddle to enjoy in their upgraded outdoor kitchen area.

The Solution

TruVine Renovations turned a problematic backyard into a multi-functional outdoor oasis. The upgraded drainage system and retaining wall have eliminated flooding. The vaulted screened porch with skylights lets in abundant natural light while keeping out heat, rain, and bugs. The firepit, expanded patio, and landscape enhancements provide plenty of room for gatherings.

Today, Laura enjoys her scripture-filled porch every morning, and the family has a beautiful, weather-proof place to make lasting memories together.
